Loggerhead Sea Turtle
The loggerhead sea turtle is a remarkable marine reptile named for its large, powerful head and strong jaws. These turtles are found in warm and temperate waters around the world, including the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Adult loggerheads can grow up to 1 meter (3 feet) in length and weigh around 135 kilograms (300 pounds).
Loggerhead turtles are primarily carnivorous, feeding on jellyfish, crustaceans, and mollusks. Their strong jaws allow them to crush hard shells with ease. These turtles undertake extensive migrations, often crossing entire oceans between feeding and nesting grounds.
Unfortunately, loggerhead turtles face significant threats, including habitat destruction, bycatch in fishing gear, and pollution. Conservation efforts, such as protecting nesting sites and reducing plastic waste, are critical to their survival.
