Steller Sea Lion

The Steller sea lion, also known as the northern sea lion, is the largest member of the eared seal family (Otariidae). Males can weigh up to 1,200 kilograms (2,600 pounds) and measure over 3 meters (10 feet) in length, while females are smaller and lighter. These marine mammals inhabit the North Pacific, from the coasts of Japan and Russia to Alaska and California.

Steller sea lions are social animals, forming large colonies on rocky shores. During the breeding season, males establish territories and gather harems of females. Their diet consists of fish, squid, and other marine organisms, making them essential predators in their ecosystems.

Despite their impressive size and adaptability, Steller sea lions face threats such as climate change, overfishing, and habitat degradation. Marine conservation programs are vital to protect these magnificent animals and their habitats.
